Did you know that right now, 23 GOP congressional incumbents are no longer seeking re-election? It’s true, and there’s reason to believe that the number will grow in the upcoming weeks.

That number doesn’t even include the number of congresspeople who have either chosen to retire (such as MTG), the people who are being forced out of their roles (like Kash Patel), or the number of judges who have begun to stage a revolt against their Fuhrer. More and more US judges are standing up to him — much to Trump’s dismay.

For many of us, seeing so many people get kicked out of the GOP’s circle is a beacon of hope. Others are not so sure they are able to trust the seemingly good news, as if the light at the end of the tunnel is more of a freight train than anything else.

Tackle your credit card debt by paying 0% intro APR until 2027

Did you know some credit cards can actually help you get out of debt faster? Yes, it sounds crazy. But it’s true.

The secret: Find a card with a “0% intro APR" period for balance transfers or purchases. This could help you fund a large purchase or transfer your debt balance and pay it down as much as possible during the intro period. No interest means you could pay off the debt faster.

While I see it as a sign of hope, the sudden turn of the tide also got me thinking about something.

Yes, it’s clear that the GOP sees that their platform isn’t popular with voters. Yes, it’s clear that GOP officials are afraid of their own voter base, considering how few of them are willing to go to their own town halls these days. Yes, it’s clear that even loyal right-wing voters are turning on the GOP.

However, that doesn’t fully explain what we’re seeing.

For all intents and purposes, the GOP has ratfucked its way into total power. Trump and his cronies are now openly ignoring the courts (with the ICE shutdowns), ignoring the Geneva Convention (with Venezuela), and trying to ignore the most basic parts of the Constitution.

In a sane country, people would be stopping them from doing what they’re doing. No one is stopping them. For a GOP operative, this means that being a congressperson could theoretically be a route to great job security, extreme wealth-building through corruption, and a way to grab power.

Considering what we’ve seen the GOP do in recent years, does it really make sense for so many of them to just…walk away from all that opportunity? If you ask me, no, it doesn’t.

What could be causing the mass GOP exodus?

Don’t get me wrong. I do believe that many politicians are afraid of the damage they’re doing to their careers. I do believe that many judges are worried about being disbarred as a result of the orders carried out for Trump right now.

However, I think there’s another reason.

A criminal one.

That’s right. I believe the mass exodus has more to do with taking out a CYA policy when consequences will be had than it has to do with an angry voter base. CYA, for the uninitiated, is slang for Cover Your Ass — a way to lay out groundwork for plausible deniability later in life.

Let’s talk about how organized crime members tend to prepare for an arrest.

The number one rule of the underworld is to not get arrested and to try to prevent it at all costs. That’s obvious. However, there’s a second, less known rule: prepare for an arrest so you have a good case in court if you get popped.

In the world of organized crime, high-ranking gangsters traditionally would CYA themselves by doing notable, visible acts of good deeds. It was (and is) done as a way to offer good PR so that if/when top members get arrested, they have a reason to say that they are worthy of a lighter sentence.

For example, Al Capone was famous for establishing soup kitchens during the Great Depression. In Japan, the Yakuza offered relief after natural disasters through volunteer work and fundraising. Even the Hell’s Angels do toy drives for needy kids.

In World War II, this didn’t happen because all the people who defied Hitler (or even just didn’t fit the bill) were killed if they openly disagreed with him.

However, there were many people who covertly resisted him, including one Nazi guard who was later saved by the inmates he had saved when he was put on trial for war crimes. (His name was Hans Munch, also known as the “Good Man of Auschwitz.”)

Right now, there is a growing tide turning against Trump. This makes for a fertile ground to build a golden path away from the GOP’s fate, which is increasingly looking more and more like the Fourth Reich.

Trump’s policies involving ICE’s crimes, the “kill them all” orders in Venezuela, and the anti-Latino actions are international crimes.

Non-constitutional orders and treason are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to potential charges faced by GOP operatives. Heck, they’ve already shown panic over the Epstein files for good reason — many politicians (on both sides, to be fair) are likely in them!

Here’s the thing: pedophilia is not what will end up being the most remarkable crimes that could result in charges. On the potential plate are crimes that can rightfully be called genocide.

The “kill them all” orders from Hegseth go against the Geneva Convention, as do many of the genocidal orders carried out by ICE against civilians. The same can be said of the sudden cut-off from discussions with other countries — a faux pas at best, and a potential sign of criminal espionage at worst.

This makes a very big difference to how these crimes are treated.

Here’s why the GOP is more afraid of genocide and war crime charges than things like treason.

It all deals with their power hold. The GOP is banking on being able to get the Supreme Court to give them a light sentence — or to, at the very least, obstruct the shit out of the investigation until cases against operatives are dropped.

As long as the GOP is being tried in an American setting, there’s a damn good chance that they’ll get away with it. I mean, look at Trump. He got away with his crimes from his first presidency. That alone was proof to some of these guys that they could get away with it.

That stops when they leave the United States.

International types of crimes are not just tried by the United States courts. They’re tried by international courts, often by people who are sympathetic to the plights of the victims.

This means they can’t get away with their shenanigans with that same level of confidence. For many in those political hotseats, they already know the world is watching. Their choice to revolt against Trump was a calculated risk — a way to backpedal and hopefully scuttle all their other decisions.

Why are they rebelling now?

Because there’s enough unpopularity with Trump that it makes political, financial, and legal sense to do so. Or rather, because Trump is getting so dangerous that they feel like they have to build a defense case before it all hits the fan.

Prior to the whole ICE and Venezuela thing, they would have never budged because they were making bank through the corruption. They had it made. All they had to do was deal with a narcissist’s behavioral issues once in a while.

So what’s their game plan?

I want to point out that none of the people who are suddenly rebelling are doing so out of their own conscious’s sake. Or at least, it’s highly unlikely. They are, however, working on trying to show that they “had a change of heart” as a way to ameliorate their image in the future.

Think about it. If a politician enacts a bunch of horrible laws throughout their term, then suddenly about-faces to create laws that help heal it, wouldn’t that make a big difference in how courts treat them? It might, depending on the court.

In the United States court system, seeing pre-emptive repentance is often considered to be a “mitigating factor.” In other words, judges are encouraged to take that factor into consideration before they make a heavy-handed punishment call.

It also, in theory, could help argue their innocence. The argument that people like this are likely trying to make is that they’ve “clearly seen the error of their ways” while in office, and that they were trying to “do damage control” while staying in power.

In other words, it’s like a kid who spilled a bunch of cookies on the floor and put them all back in the jar. The cookies are still ruined because they were on the floor. The kid’s just hoping that they’ll look sorry enough to not get grounded.

If they’re laying the groundwork this hard, one thing is clear: they’re terrified of being held accountable for their actions.

Here’s what we should do, as Americans.

First off, we need to keep the pressure on the Epstein list and lock up anyone who was involved regardless of political affiliation. Next, it’s time for Congress, the FBI, and yes, the US Armed Forces to refuse to allow Trump and his cronies any more leeway.

Every bit of resistance helps.

If you are a member of the Armed Forces, say no when they ask you to kill civilians. That’s not what you signed up for. If you’re a judge, don’t give into the pressure to treat people who are different from you poorly. If you’re a cop, don’t agree to protect white nationalists when they march since cops are not legally required to protect others

As a whole, we should start pressing the UN and other NGOs to hold Trump and his cronies accountable for the genocides they’ve so gleefully committed.

And for crying out loud, don’t forget what they were okay with doing. NONE of us should fall for that ruse, because let’s face it, if they were 100 percent sure they could get away with it, they’d be fine with it.

Yep
